Shadybrook Youth Opportunities
For youth, both with a farm background and from town, raising and showing sheep can prove to be a rewarding experience, but provide some challenges. Shadybrook is committed to helping.
Lease A Lamb
(details available on agreement download below)
For youth who:

No space at home for your lamb project
or
-
Want to work with a lamb, but don't want to OWN a small flock.
You may lease a lamb for the summer, and house it at your farm or at Shadybrook.
Cost:
$95 when the lamb is kept at Shadybrook
$50 when the lamb is kept at your farm.
Youth Committment:

Sign the registration of the lamb back to Shadybrook at the conclusion of the show season, no later than October 1.

Complete the educational information on sheep.

Come to Shadybrook to work with and lead your lamb (schedule to be agreed upon).

Pay any entry fees to fairs. (youth collects any premiums paid by fairs).
Shadybrook Commitment:

Will feed the lamb appropriate level to attain show condition, if housed at Shadybrook.

Vaccinate and deworm.

Pay and mail the registration transfers, if needed.

Recommend show choice options and assist in signing up for fairs and shows.

Advise as necessary, how to fit and show your lamb.
Companion Lamb
For youth who:

Buy 1 lamb for your 4H project from Shadybrook, but don't have any other sheep to raise with it.
(Sheep are flocking animals and should not be kept as solitary animals. They need other sheep!)
You may borrow a companion lamb for the summer to raise with your lamb.
Cost:
None other than the extra feed for the companion lamb.
Youth Committment:

Agree to feed and care for the companion lamb through the show season, and return the companion lamb at the end of the show season.
Shadybrook Commitment:

Vaccinate and deworm.

Recommend show choice options and assist in signing up for fairs and shows for your show lamb.

Advise as necessary, how fit and show your lamb.
